Galway Walking Club
Every fortnight , The Galway Walking Club organise a ramble in the countryside around counties Galway , Clare or Mayo . The length of the rambles vary between 9 & 14 miles depending on the location . Where possible the most scenic routes are taken.
Frequent stops are made to enable the slower walkers to catch up to the main group & take a breather before continuing . A longer stop is made at the mid point in order to take lunch . Towards the end of the walk everyone is allowed to head to the finish at their own pace .
It should be noted that as you complete more walks your level of fitness will dictate the speed at which you will be able to complete the walk .
The time taken to complete a ramble is entirely dependant on the number of walkers & the amount of stops that are made . We go out to enjoy the walk , scenery & countryside without trying to break speed records . Where possible we try to eliminate long hilly stretches although this is not always possible in places such as The Burren .
A bus will be organised for the point to point rambles only as the numbers attending are greater . Short walks & hill-walks will require one's own transport .
From the middle of May to the end of September walks are organised on a Wednesday evening leaving The Galway Omniplex at 7.30pm . These walks are normally no more than 6 - 7 miles & we aim to be back after an hour & a half to two hours .
Meetings are held at TONERY'S Lounge , Bohermore at 8.30pm sharp on the Thursday evening prior to the scheduled Sunday walk . It is at this meeting that the transport is organised & future walks are planned .
Feel free to come along to our meetings - they are great fun !
